Is anyone suffering pop up ads when going into the Lagondanet website?
Www. Lagondanet.com
The hosting company say the site is clean and that it is a local user problem but I am not so sure.
Please let me know. |

Yes. I get them when I view the site on my home PC but not when I view on my Mac at work. |

I get them on different Macs regardless of the browser, just tried it on a new iPhone, same effect, pop-ups start to open. I would suspect the hosting provider for sure. A browser will only open pop-ups if it gets directed to do so through the data it receives.
One of the pop-ups coming up now wants you to install Flash player while not pointing to Adobe, looks suspicious to me |

The hosting company still say the problem is not with them and that they get no pop ups.
I get them intermittently (usually the same ones. eg. mirando.de) depending on which machine I am using. I don't get them with other sites so there is an issue here.
I have cleared my browsing history/cache.
I am still investigating. IT is not my forte. |

May be the people at the hosting company have the "block pop-ups" feature activated in their browser. If I select that, the pop-ups no longer appear, however I need to be able to see pop-ups for certain work related applications so usually have it off.
One of the reasons for getting pop-ups is adware that installed itself. This is usually visible through extensions in the browser or a bar in the browser. I have none of that, I'm still suspecting something is wrong on the hosting side. Don't have this phenomena with other sites. |

Yes I tend to agree. But solution may not suit all. |

Roger,
The popup ads are caused by the use of the "Motigo Webstats" service on the frontpage of your website.
If you view the HTML code / page source for the front page for lagondanet.com you will find a few lines of code starting with "Begin Nedstat Basic code" and ending with "End Nedstat Basic code". The code is located (hidden) between the disclaimer link and the flag image. If you remove it the popup ads will be gone.
How do you edit the pages ? Do you edit the HTML code directly or use an editor which translates into HTML ?
- I use the Ghostery and ABP (Ad Block Plus) extensions in Safari (or Google Chrome) to avoid ads and reduce tracking on webpages.
Let me know if you need help to remove it.

With Soren's help I think this may now have been resolved. |

I think the Nedstat code could be a leftover from when Roger had a visitor counter on the front page years ago. I suspect that the company (perhaps a new owner....) behind that visitor counter service have decided to (mis)use that "channel" for ads and tracking. I don't think the hosting company is to blame.

My pop-ups don't work properly due to a short-circuit I have not addressed since it appeared in summer 2014...
I know, this tread is about another type of pop-ups, but I wanted to change subject for a while!
