O.K. This is nonsense that our faithfull but power consuming box has an overdrive.

But does your box have also this intermediate gear when switching from 2nd to 3rd? It does not feel like slipping, it does feel like an intermediate gear.

When I drove another Lagonda ( Adrian's ) I noticed a big difference in the automatic box. His changes the gears much harder ( sportier ) and mine switches much softer.

The ( standard ) Chrysler Torqueflite gearbox only has one "law of working", but some specialists are able to change the laws...as they said it for my car. I personnally understand nothing or about nothing with the working of automatic gearboxes, so I would say maybe the gearbox was converted ( for your car or for the other ) ???
I also discovered the Lagonda was fitted with a kickdown, which gives an amazing sport effect !

OK guys this box has no overdrive and no lockup.
But be sure that your kickdown cable is working in the correct way,
you can check this by depressing the accelerator to max just before the end you feel that a spring loaded ball will give way(this is making the downshift possible)
from 3-rd to second this can happen to some 120 km/h max ,above this speed the box will not allow this.

In my Jensen (the same box)the cable was broken for some years completely unknown untill it was repaired and all hell broke loose under full power (coooool) and shifting rockhard
The same happens in my Lagondas and also the 72 V8
If you like to have it shift back earlier just make the cable a bit tighter.

Nufsaid, just check it
