Hello to all,
I have a bonnet strut that lost pressure. I would like to have new ones made and I'd like to know if anyone knows the Newton rating those struts should have?
Thanks

The part is 64.19661 'Gas strut, bonnet' which is in section 7.6A, Chassis & Body of the parts manual. They are available from Heritage parts at £184 each. I just spoke to Rob Simms who is the Parts Manager at HWM Aston Martin who I deal with. He is at rob@hwm.co.uk.
If you look in the parts manual under this section you will see that this is a later replacement strut so if you currently have the earlier one, you may need the additional listed nuts/bolts.

Thanks for the contact info but do you know what Newton pressure those struts have? It may be cheaper to have mine rebuild.

Thanks but those struts have from 30 to 400N. We need something like 1500N! _________________ Alvira's keeper |

I have looked at the struts on 13379. They are manufactured by Industrial Gas Springs Ltd.
The front ones are sized:
shaft diameter: 8mm
Extending length: 150mm
Body length: 215mm
Body diameter: 18mm
So I think this makes them these ones: http://www.industrialgassprings.com/uk/products_industrial-gas-struts_size8.asp - Customline 8mm / 368mm / TV / Customline.
The page says 100-600N and they are adjustable.
My fronts have markings Customline GS9058-2 and 48-97.
The rear ones are also Customline with GS9057-2 and 44-92. They have a body length of 250 and a extension of 150mm.
I tried calling IGS in the UK to see if the markings correspond to any of their standard range but didn't get an answer.
I will post some photos when I get a chance..

Jonathan,
Thanks for all those pictures and data on the gas struts.
100-600N seams a bit low. 10 to 60lbs of strenth X2 to lift that heavy bonnet...
I contacted David marks and he told me he can get his hand on a set fot about 50 GBP each. I think I will go down that path.

Francis and co, seems you are missing a little clue,,, The hinges are spring preloaded . If you pull out a little piece of the carpet next to the tank you,ll see.
happy hunting |

:you got me on that one, on the other hand, bonnet weighs less than halve of the bootlid, together with pivot point of boot being outside its dimention as opposed to the inner 1/5 position of bonnet a total of maybe 1/3 of needed Pressure ???😉 |
