A brief summary of a wonderful weekend:
The Luxembourg Lagonda Fest 2014
4 UK cars crossed into France via the Eurotunnel on Thursday 28th August and convoyed through a few showers to Piétrebais not far from Namur where we met up with and enjoyed lunch provided by Johan at his premises ‘The Goodtime Company’, which runs team building events.
From here we then drove on for a couple of hours to our destination the Sofitel Luxembourg Europe

where we assembled our 20 Lagondas in front of the hotel and joined old friends and new. Michael presented his exciting new 2-door Series 4 Coupe and Claude brought his short wheel base Tickford. There was a fine ‘welcome dinner’ in the hotel’s Stuebli restaurant and afterwards a number of us adjourned to the bar.
After breakfast on Friday 29th August we drove into the city and assembled our cars in front of the Town Hall on William II’s Square. A spectacular display! From here we were given an interesting tour of the Old Town by a professional guide before returning to our cars. This was followed by an excellent alfresco BBQ lunch at Ansembourg Manor in hot sunshine.

We returned to our hotel via a drive along the valley of the Sure River. In the evening we were taken by coach to the Hotel Bel-Air at Echternach where we had an excellent dinner in the restaurant Les Jardins Gourmands.

The evening was enhanced by Paul and Tchie’s piano playing and singing by a number of our party.
On Saturday 30th after a leisurely breakfast we drove along the southern part of the Moselle River valley to Schengen where we visited the European Museum Schengen http://www.visitluxembourg.com/en/place/museum/european-museum-schengen
We then carried on to Mondorf-les-Bains where we assembled and displayed our cars in the ‘Concours d’elegance’ meeting at Mondorf Park

Ours was a very distinctive display among some very fine classic cars. Lunch was held in the Orangery. In the evening we were taken from our hotel by coach to the Bourglinster Castle where we were greeted in the courtyard by ‘Die Reidener Juegdbleiser’, a hunting horn band. There followed a Gala Dinner in the Knights Hall of the castle.

The wines and food were superb. An award ceremony was held and various awards and gifts were distributed. The White Lightning Trophy was deservedly given to Michael by Thomas. Harry received Black Lightning from Siem and Francis awarded his ‘Alvira’ Restoration Cup to Martin. Ingrid was given the Co-pilot prize. DJ Bob Christy provided music for the dance party which ended at 2 am when the last coach returned to the hotel.
Huge thanks are due to Olivier for organising such a successful event. It was clear he had given everything his personal attention. We are of course grateful too for the assistance provided by his family and friends.
Thanks to all of the participants our special Lagonda family is alive and well! Next year, Jubilee year, will be organised by Zoran in Switzerland and we hope you will join us there.
ps. I have some photos which I will post later. Please feel free to post your own. |
