Re the drop down (safety) lights located in the boot - can anyone confirm when were they introduced and for which markets?

Not all cars have them.

In the Autocar w/e 23 October 1976 article "Aston trend-setter" by Stuart Bladon, it says:

Unusual features of the body include the way in which the rear lamps are built into the boot lid, to allow for a full-width opening without a sill, for easy loading up. There seems to be some doubt as to whether such an arrangement is legal; but Aston's chief engineer Mike Loasby simply responds that if it is not allowed he will repeat the lamp units inside.

This implies type-approval required it at the start (since the article is pre-production).

The Lagonda Instruction Book (the thin one) states:

Boot Tail Lamps

Repeater tail lamps and indicators are provided in housings inside the boot lid. These operate when the lid is open if access to the boot is required at night.

My instruction book has no date, but the company name is Aston Martin Lagonda (1975) Limited and the ignition is stated as 'Lucas OPUS mark 2' which was from launch to 13197 and the alternator as 75 amp which is launch to 13179. All this also implies launch for the boot lamps.

The Parts Catalogue says against the lamp assembly components in the electrical section: "Supplementary rear lights only fitted to certain cars. See also Section 7.7A.1" .. and in this section: "Not USA or Middle East cars".

So.. I would say:

    * From launch until S4 is introduced
    * UK, Europe, not USA, not Middle East.
