Interesting that it has a modified, distributorless 'wasted spark' ignition system.
This is something which is possible using a modified Weber/Marelli ECU and is the way the Ferrari F40 does it with the same engine management system. However, the F40 (and also the Virage etc.) uses two of basically the same ECUs, each for four cylinders, rather than the single one used for the 585 engine. For the 585 EFI used on the Lagonda and V8, the single (four cylinder) ECU sent each of its four injector outputs to a pair of injectors. This has either an aftermarket system, or a pair of later (and modified) ECUs.
I do like the look of those coil packs on top of the engine, but not the analogue dash.
I take it those door cards have been modified for the speakers? |

I'm still not convinced that it really is 13507 - which is supposed to have the VF dashboard (VIN 13505 - 13539).
- So why does it have a CRT to analogue converted dashboard + the center console from a CRT car ? |

Good point. It would require new center console with different switches, different top-roll of dash as VF dash part is narrower, new wood panel in front of passenger, a set of CRT binnacles and steering column cover. Also, it has no side repeater indicators. With another engine bay picture we could confirm as the VF cars have a different fuse box.
Highly unlikely a VF car, but right on the cusp of the changeover so maybe the last of the CRTs?
US spec car due to rear number plate lights plus high-level brake light.
Definitely after-market EFI as the idle control solenoid has been removed and the throttle position sensor is different. |

Thanks Roger and Jonathan
- If it really is 13507 it surly does raise a few questions:
We know for sure that 13505 & 13510 both have the VF dashboard, and those two cars were built for the Paris Motor Show (13505) and the British International Motor Show (13510). I believe both events took place in October 1986.
But what about 13506, 13507, 13508, 13508 & 13509 (None of which are currently featured in the gallery) ?
If 13507 was delivered with CRT dash & center console, then what about the other cars between 13505 & 13510 ? Are they also CRT cars ?
Could they have continued producing the CRT cars while preparing the VF update launch ?
That would change quite a lot in respect to the number of CRT and VF Series 3 cars made.
Naturally 13507 could have been converted from the VF dash and center console to a CRT setup - and then later on to analogue. But what are the odds ? |

It is possible a CRT car was built after 13505.
The factory records are not clear on this and my files have no further info on this re the cars you indicate. I went to see 13509 in 1995 as a possible purchase but cannot remember the dash. 13507 was the 1986 Miami Show car. |

Amazing that the chassis record does not even mention which dash the car was originally supplied with. The chassis record for a RR or Bentley from the same era would have contained at least 30 pages of valuable info... Anyway, different league I suppose (or should I say world ?)
Btw, this one sold for $ 19,600 to a chap in Florida.
It looked in pretty good shape apart from the non-original dash (the new owner will be thankful for this though).
I can easily imagine the vendor could have been a widow who donated the car to the Salvation Army who themselves had no clue what to do with it or even what it was worth ! |

This should be a leson for all of us on the Lagondanet.
We should talk to one another before those auctions. This way we could make sure we do not bid against one another, thus rasing the price just between friends! _________________ Alvira's keeper |
