I have a problem with a nearside pop-up headlamp on a late S2. Could anyone explain:
1) what's caused it;
2) how to sort it: and
3) how to try to ensure it never happens again
Thanks |

Check if the wiring is correctly fixed near the front additional lights... _________________ Welcome to Paradise ! (FRONT 242)

Also check whether the motor is getting hot. There is a plastic knob on the back of the motor which you can turn to get the motor to spin if it gets stuck. I found recently that one of the lamps on 13277 was up when I collected it from its MOT. The motor was red hot and when I touched the knob on the back it went down.

Sorry I can't get the vin number yet. The car isn't actually mine, it's a neighbour's car but I'm passionate about these Lagondas and have vowed to care for it like it were my own. I have to content myself with a Mk6 Bentley and a Vanden Plas 4 Litre R.
I was wrong about the car, it's a 1988 late S3. It's the blue one which was recently sold at the Bonhams AM Works auction. Does that narrow the problem down? Or are the mechanisms all the same?
Is there any way I can get the light back down manually? And ensure that it never gets stuck up again? |

Easy:
1. Lift the bonnet and use the black knob on the back of the motor - turn it clockwise.
2. Never operate the lights again.
The procedure is in the owners manual.

Thanks for that - I've found the section in the owners handbook. When you say 'Never operate the lights again', am I having a sense of humour malfunction or do you actually mean it? |

You might find that with use they free up a bit. The main thing to be bothered about is not to run the car with a lamp half way up as this will keep the motor powered and it will get hotter and hotter..
The motor is a Lucas part and it and the mechanism are from a Triumph TR7 / TR8 / TVR 350 if you needed to replace. |

Many thanks for that. I believe the car was stuck in a museum for a bit, so things may be a bit sclerotic to start off with. I'll have a look and find the Lucas part number. |
