Hello!

I am thinking to replace the car radio and to have a car radio that once could be found in the car. Was there a special kind of radio in the car when it was delivered? Can anybody recommend a car radio that suits the car? Where could I get a used 80s radio? The new ones very often don't look very good.

13295 was fitted with a ALPINE, but the US frequencies were only available ( jump from 101.3 to 101.5 and 101.4 unavailable for example ).
My other cars are fitted with low cost retrofit radios I'll replace with USB/MP3/CD units ( on 13034 at least; already done on 13295 ).

Both 13277 and 13379 have Blaupunkt units - perfect for you in Germany!

13277 is a later fitment - late 80s I think (with CD multichanger in the boot), but 13379 is the original one (AM/FM with tape). I have also seen the same radio in other Lagondas so I assume it was standard fitment at the time. I will dig out the model number for you..

Mine is a Pioneer also with cassette. I'll see if I can post a pic. My car is 049.

13379 (original) is a Blaupunkt New York SQR 83. Here is a better picture:



13277 (replacement) is a Blaupunkt Atlanta SQR 49. The radio it replaced had a larger rectangular hole which is why there is a black plate around it. The original separate amplifier is still buried below (unused now).

I think the original for 13277 may have been Tenvox as I have a warranty card in my history file.

The parts catalogue lists this from Sept 1982 when the separate front/rear fader was deleted. It does also say that custom ones were also fitted though.

Looking at the Electrics section of the Parts Catalogue, the illustrations appear to show the Tenvox EP-821S1 (Fujitsu Ten Limited) as the 1983-1985 radio, and the Blaupunkt New York SQR 83 as the 1985 onwards one.

Roger, what model is yours? This may be the standard-fit earlier (two knob) one (up to Sept 1982).

I can appreciate that the equipment used in the cars was up there with the best that was around at the time and that you guys are considerably more "purist" in having your Lagondas restored as faithfully to original standards as possible.

I, for my sins, am more a purist for sound quality whilst attempting not to alter the interior cosmetics of the car too much.

Although I still have boxes of cassettes I don't listen to them in the car, just the engine!

That is just as well as you would not be able to hear the engine over the "hiss" of your cassettes.
