|
|
As you may have noticed, I am a newbie here, so I'll offer a quick introduction. My name is Dan and while I have been a Lagonda fan for many years. One of the interesting oddities of this car is how people refer to them. Here, it seems there is a Series 1, 2, 3 and 4 moniker attached. Presumably, 1 is the 4-door DBS variant (of which there are 7?), the series 2 and 3 are the models with pop-up headlights and the series 4 is the last, more rounded model. Some, however, seem to refer to these as Series 1, 2, 2a and 3, where 1 is the DBS-derivative, 2 and 2a are the pop-up headlight models, and the 3 is the round model. Is one more correct than the other? _________________ best regards from Boston,

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the Forum
- I believe the Series 1, 2, 3, 4 designation is the one normally used. With Series 1 being the 4-door DBS variant. But the specs seems to overlap each series (eg. interior, wheels, dashboard etc.).
I have 13505, which is the first one of the last 35 Series 3 cars which all have the Series 4 interior and dashboard.
http://www.vassard.dk/AML13505
- Just like 15536: The silver "project" car which is currently the most talked about car on this board / planet
You can also check out The Aston Martin Lagonda Gallery:

- I will do an update shortly adding a few more cars (to a grand total of 245 and just 400 to go.....)
Best regards,
Soren |

Welcome abord Dan
We need more members from this side of the pond! I am not too far from you in Montreal.
I never heard of the 2a designation but the pop-up model goes from LOOL 13001 to 13539 of 645 and I am not quite sure when the designation series 3 came to be but it is, I think when AML finally dropped the futuristoc dashboard with the touch buttons that created so much problems for AML and the Lagonda owners of that era. The interiors were also upgraded with newer seats and door handles, gone were the leather inner door handles as well as the hubcap wheels. Around the same time AML added rear windows that open, yes the first 280 or so Lagondas series 2 did not have rear windows that open, nor did the sun roof and that on all Lagondas from seris 2 on.
So yes it could be called 2a since no body work was changed but I think that 2-3-4 is the most common designation.
You should ask Roger Ivett, he is a very knowlageble AML guy! Like Soren with his wonderfull Vassard bible of Lagondas.
Check out mine 13207!

Series 3 starts with fuel injection.
Series 4 is the rounded version.
CRT dash starts with 13380
VF dash starts half way through Series 3 and continues to end of Series 4. |

S2,S3 and S4 have 6 differents models, I classify -personnaly and this is a strictly personal point of view- so :
S2A = 13001>13283 : steel wheels with disks, no rear power windows, knobs on front doors...
S2B = 13269 + 13284>13384 : Pepperpot wheels, rear power windows, other seats, knobs on console...
S2C = 13385>13463 : new wheels, CRT dashboard
S3A = 13464>13504 : idem S2C + injection
S3B = 13505>13539 : S3A with Vacuum Fluorescent dashboard
S4 = 13539>13645 _________________ Welcome to Paradise ! (FRONT 242)

I'm new!..........well new to the forum anyway. Should have joined it ages ago to be honnest.
Shall I introduce myself? I'm Tim_C, registrar of cars for the AMHT and bustin' a gut to bring you the next register by 2010 (AMOC politics). You will also be familiar with AstonMartins.com which is taking an enforced back seat right now. Not quite so well known is that I'm a Lagonda owner (13438) with a car in the US even though I live in the UK.
As has been already stated the series 1/2/3/4 was invented by a previous registrar. Within AML, the wedge 2 and 3 were Mark 1, the series 4 was Mark II. The Mark III was the 4 door based on the Virage and there was also a Mark IV (the Vignale).
I tend to agree with Roger, that the 1/2/3/4 thing is set in stone (even though the series 1-5 for the V8 saloon are being quietly burried). But if sufficient member/owners fee that a 2A, 2B thing is good and easy to understand, I'm more than happy to consider having it in the next regsiter. My only other thourght is around the MY identifier on the VIN number - not sure if that corresponds to the major changes, but it's not difficult for me to check this.
Anyway, I joined mostly to talk ablut my CRT dash computer..........but that can wait _________________ Registrar of Cars, AMHT |

I must say there is a certain simplicity about Series 1 2 3 & 4 however artificial it may be. There was development, variation, and exception during the entire production so let's not get too hung up on classification. |

Tim welcome
Personally I think that some slarifying would be great.
My car is a series 2 with the current nomenclature. But it is a CRT car. I would suggest to call this car the series 2,5.

Perhaps we/I should disregard Series this & Mark that and just use the chassis numbers? After all they are all unique motor cars!
