Maybe I should treat myself and get the one car that really naggs at me nowadays... A Bentley Continental GTC 2007. Those cars are available under $125 000.- at this time and do come with a warranty...

Nothing wrong with your optimism/enthusiasm/passion/obsession.... Francis! We all have that and that is why we have the cars we do, especially the Lagonda.

I am sorry to have been a damp squib in curbing your enthusiasm and maybe you should go ahead with the project anyway as you now find yourself in a very fortunate and unique work position, otherwise what will you do with all this free time you now have each day ? ?

As long as you are aware of the sheer magnitude of the project and your family do not mind not seeing you for the next couple of years, then go for it.

I still work for the new owners of my company, from home ( Razz

) and only about 2-3 hours a day for the next 18 months.

This morning I repainted the metal ramp in front of my house, the outside staircase. It was done 3 years ago and needed some touch-ups where rust came out. (1 hour) Than I worked for an hour, until I started this text.

I also got started about 3 years ago on an ambicius project to bring the wood back from my intire house. That is to say that some idiot that lived in my house before me, probably in the 70's painted the doors and door frames that are made of solid oak...So about 5 or 6 coats of paint later, I decided to do it myself. I am about 80% done, doing one door at a time, one door frame at a time and one window and baseboard at a time...let's say that a door frame + door is about 20 hours of dirty manual labor X 25 door frames + door and the rest...a real labor of love...

Here are 3 pictures of the result:

Picture one is of my entryway frames and doors done last winter, the second is of the hallway that still needs to be done, the placard door is stripped but not yet dyed, I ran out of dye and will get the new batch on Monday. So that will be my Tuesday project, dying and 2 coats of varnish. The rest will have to wait for my return from Europe in September. The third one is a view from my office to the hallway with the franes done also last winter.

So you see that I now use my time as a manual laborer, but at my own pace and for projects that interest me.

Instead of that Bentley: Why not buy 3 extra Lagondas in top condition (eg. a series 3 & 4) ? Having several Lagondas (even in top condition) should keep you busy Laughing

- If you need a Lagonda project: Why not buy a good Lagonda in Europe during your trip here. You could bring it back home and sell it ?

Francis I sympathise with your idea with those two Lagonda's, but I think your estimates are too low.

But, wait till you see Harry's project, then you might be really in need of a "donor" car.....

A car from Europe would be ideal since I can take them both back in the same container, the problem is the Euro/US$ exchange rate.

I can get great European cars in America for a fraction of what you pay in Europe...

I do not want to start a one model stable in a market place were it is vertually impossible to sell the car (Montreal), I would then rather get the Bentley Continental GTC... or a Lamborghini Galardo E-Gear cabriolet for rughly the same price. A Barferrari could do the trick, something like a 575M.

In Europe I would like to get a Lagonda Rapide (61-64) (LHD) if the deal presents itself for a descent car.

A good Pagoda (Merc 280 SL) 70 or 71 would be nice...

A nice 2006 of 2007 DB9 Convertible goes for under $90 000.- now a days in the States...That also is tempting...
