Can anyone enlighten me on the specific model of Chrysler Torque Flight Automatic Transmission used in the S2 Lags?

My guess is 727. This appears to be the model used on the V8 and I would see no reason why the slightly smaller 904 would be used on the Lagonda. Lots of great info on the workings here: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/torqueflite-tom-hand.html

None of the docs I have refer to the specific model. The 'Lagonda Instruction Book' gives lots of specifics on lots of parts, but unfortunately not the gearbox..

Thanks for the quick reply Jonathan. 727 is what I'm thinking. I noticed that in the parts cat. the trans case is "remarked" as 3410470. I'm thinking that is a Chrysler part number. I'm going to check it with a local Chrysler Dealer. They should be able to identify it if it is a Chrysler part number. Some of the other internals should specify the model, 727 or not. If that's the case a more modern 4 speed, like a 48RE, could possibly be used. I'm up to something, that's for sure.

Yup,
It,s a standard 727,as I have 3 in row on the shelf, a V8, a Lagonda and an interceptor , no differences and overhauled with chrysler parts of the local Yank specialist.

Would be interested by this kind of conversion also but that's a bit expensive just for an XJ40 transmission kit...

Yes I thought G Whitehouse might be able to do this but costly indeed.

The Jensen Interceptor friends on FB have better solution. The later model 700 something box seems a straight swop over,will try to find it again

To get the real benefit of the additional gear from the Chrysler transmission, a swap of the final drive ratio would be good imho. Having the overdrive added will reduce cruising RPM but leaves other gears as they are. Of course it depends on what one wants to achieve. The A-518 is for sure the least complex approach to add a gear.
Other conversions use most likely ZF or GM (4L80E) boxes and are for sure more complex as these are ECU controlled and expect to interact with an engine ECU which in a Lagonda is either absent or wasn't designed to chat with a gearbox. I think Roos advertised having done a ZF 5HP30 (as used in the DB7 Vantage) conversion in an AM V8. Let's ask while we're there next week.

I think Michael v. A has changed the box in 2 of his cars. ZF or BMW? Ask him in Gstaad.

And as said, the final ratio between US cars and others is different too...
Maybe I'll swap mine in a near future to increase speed ( but is it well necessary ? ). More speed = less torque...
