LagondaFest in America?
Could that ever happen?
Well I have been thinking today and here is an idea for the adventurus in you:
Shipping my car to Europe cost $1700 in Montreal and 500 pounds in England for arrival fees. So about $2500.-US all inclusive. That is about 1750- Euros for you guys or 1550.- Pounds.
One container can take 2 Lagondas so if we organize this right, 2 cars per container, round trip per car would be that amount. $2500 or 1750.- Euros or 1550.- Pounds for transport, return from Southampton, or Antwerp or Roterdam or Le Havre.
So you need 2 weeks for shipping out, one or two weeks in America and the car is back home after an other two weeks sailing back.
Therefore I propose a LagondaWEEK (maybe 10 days) to start in Montreal, maybe spend a weekend at the Grand-Prix du Canada (yes, it will be back on the schedule next year), take us to places like Mt-Tremblant, Quebec City, maybe Niagara Falls, we could also make a stop in Connecticut at Limerock Park for the AMOC annual meeting and finishing up in New York City at the Plaza Hotel for a grandiose Gala at the end of the tour.
We would then drive next door to Port Elizabeth to have our cars shipped back to Europe.
How does that sound? Any takers?
Let me know if you have any interest and I will organize something for the summer of 2011.

Nothing is impossible!
2011 is Lagondafest France and Sandra has allready started with the organisation ( Bravo! ). So it would have to be 2012.
Obviously the big issues are:
- How safe are the cars when shipped
- Are we allowed to drive our European cars in Canada / USA?
- What would be the dates
But, why not? If there are more adventurous people, I could imagine to participate.

Lagonda Week could be held in 2011 even if we have Lagonda Fest in Europe.
I would like to match the week with Grand-Prix week-end in Montreal, and that is set (in 2010) for June 6th. So plenty of time to get the cars back for July, a month ahead of Lagonda Fest 2011. Or we wait for Lagonda 2012 and do that instead of Lagonda Fest.
Transporting cars in a container is the safest way to get a car to America and back. Nothing is 100% safe but if you look at the pictures I posted around June 30th 2009, you will see how they attach the cars inside the container. I think that it is safe and on top you can take a maritime insurance.
As far as driving you car on canadian and american roads, there is no problems as long as you don't stay more than 6 months in each country.
I would need to investigate the insurance issue, like I had to do for my car to travel to Europe. You will need to ask your insurance company if you are covered in America otherwise we will contract a group insurance for all the participants, for the duration of the stay. My policy for the European tour I started with Alvira covers me for 6 months and costed around 300 pounds.
