Guys,
I just got back from Alvira's first real road test. A 600kms round trip from Montréal to Québec City over the weekend.
She performed wonderfully!
I still have a list of things that need to be finalised, all minor and all known.
She behaved like a real lady of the road! not to thirsty, about 100 litres for the full trip. at an average of 110 kms/h.
One thing was identified but not well understood, and now even more baffling to me:
Last year in the fall I had a problem with the heater. It would not beltch any heat!
Friday when I left the temperature was around 15 C outside and some sun. With the lever at 'off', it was spweing super hot air from the defrost vent near the windshield... With the lever at a position like 'low', some fresh air would come out of the front vents (dashboard vents) and super heat would still blow from the defrost duct. So it was hard to drive without the windows open.
Today, on the way back the outside temperature was 10 C and overcast, with the lever in the same off position, fresh air was comming out. If I was to move the lever to a position like economy or any other positions, all vents would blow cool air. What is the problem here???
The round button that displays from left to right blue (for cold) to red (for heat) does not seem to be fonctionning. Could that be the problem?
Here are some pictures from Alvira in front of the Château Frontnac and the legislative bulding, seat to the Québec gouvernement.

Gorgeous pictures!
My air conditioning system behaved very strangely, too!
Apparently some flaps are contoled by vacuum, especialy the flaps for the defrost air. So if there is not sufficient vacuum in the system the flap does not close and you get allways very hot air through the defrost. With my car the vacuum sometimes worked, so sometimes it was o.k.
Now the mechanic has changed the hoses and the flaps work again. Not hot air through the defrost!
