As owner of other oldtimers and youngtimers, I know a restoration must keep the spirit and the aspect of the car "like new" or like when "out of factory".
But what about a Lagonda ? Not oldtimer, not even youngtimer, often upgraded by the factory, a unique car in fact.
Now the question : my British Racing Green Lagonda has to be repainted ( awfull work done several years ago ) and I ask me if another green colour referenced at AML would better suit my car - because BRG is not my favorite colour -.
Any idea? Is it a crime to repaint in another colour? A damage for the value of the car ? Question

My humble opinion is, that originality is important and the more original a car is, the more valuable it is.

But of course it is your car and if you do not like the car with its original colour you are free to respray it, but try to use one of the colours which werer available from Aston Martin.

Zoran,

Be sure I won't choose Candy Red Evil or Very Mad or Pearlescent Pink Twisted Evil

You're right with the use of the original colour, but I think a metallic paint gives a touch of glamour (?!?) and class to the Lagonda. The idea is well to paint it with a colour out of the range of AM possibilities in 1983/84, green and sorted with the tan interior.
Was Chiltern Green, for example, available ?

Your choice and preference entirely. After all you have to drive it. These are individual cars each with their own character.

Zoran, Vincent, all other Lagondists,

I just had my car painted and I did not like the job so I had it re painted... The job was still not to my liking so I brought it to an other paint specialist... He will not re spray the car, he will wet sand it and only respray the clear coat. I am waiting to see the results. In the mean while, Alvira had a winter leather job done, essentially the facing of the front seats were replaced and all other leather damage and shrinkage was addressed. It looks new!!!

Following Arthur's advice all relays were replaced and miraculusly all electrical kwerks resolved themselves...Thank you for the tip!

Next week she goes to the A/C specialist and I will have finished the two year restoration...then, if all goes well, she will be taking a tour of Europe in August to culminate at the Lagonda fest 2008.

Great news that you are coming with (!) your car. Do you know to which port you will ship it and which places you plan to visit? May be we could give you some tips!

It seems that lacquering of the Lagonda is not a simple job. Mine is not perfect either, and I believe to have seen several Lagonda cars with strange spraying problems.

Regards

Zoran

I've read somewhere AML used special paints in the factory, which maybe reacts with waterpaints of today...

Hi guys,
If A M used the same paint as Rolls Royce in those days than it is a thermoplast as upposed to the more common thermohardener. Is this is covered whith the more modern 2-pack you can wait for heat burns and
the forming of "isles"where the old top is sanded , even if there is a layer
of primer or equal.

Only top result will be a bare metal respray, and that meains Days of dismantling (just count the cutting of screens and those alumnium surrounds

_ ask my fingers they still hurt after doing so a few weeks ago!!!!!!!!! )

The (french ) magazine I retrieved told about "thermoplast paint", unknown to my bodyshop...
The car will so deeply prepared with surfacer and painted with the dark green metallic paint most seen on the first Virage launch units (and also on first V600 and Shooting Brake and Lagonda of the 90's)...
I like this colour and hope it's not a crime... Shocked
Let me know if I make a BIG mistake before end of the month... Embarassed

Vinc, color sounds good to me but what exact shade is the interior,( one
can get pretty cool results with an uncommon mix)
My 057 is fire engine red inside and out Rolling Eyes that makes it much worse
Matches perfect with dark green silver/dark blue/very dark red or black,
but I want a cherryred mett, see the problem??

Anyway, go for it!

13295 will become "Buckingham Green Metallic", a Rolls Royce paint available at AML since the 80's. So the car could have got this colour when new, and it's sorted with the tan (piped brown) inside.

I have the possibility to scan this week a wide collection af AML colours. Could it be interesting to put the scans here on the forum ? I'll do it only if it worths... Wink
