Just replaced the original rubber brake lines with stainless steel braided lines from HEL Automotive (Exeter, Devon, UK). The final result was a perfect fit, but only after considerable effort and assistance from HEL. Note that the HEL Brakeline Kit (AST-3-010) which is supposed to fit our cars does not. The OEM front brakelines are about 14” long and, per the AM parts catalogue, have M10 x 1.0 threads on the end fittings, the same for all Lagondas.
Further, the single line for the rear brakes is 9” long overall. One end uses the same M10 x 1.0 flared fitting as on the front brakelines. The opposite end has a different fitting with an M10 x 1.0 thread and a small inverted flare on the end. Be careful in replacing any of these hoses as some manufacturers may unknowingly provide you with 3/8” x 24NF end fittings (wrong — dangerous!) which will screw into M10 x 1 thread (but not the other way around).
Mr. Ben Viner, Managing Director at HEL Performance Automotive (ben.viner@helperformance.com), was tremendously helpful in providing the correct parts (at no additional cost!). Most firms would have ignored my concerns regarding their product as too much of a bother to warrant a response, much less sending several sets of parts in an effort to provide the correct fitment. Should any other Lag owners be considering this braking upgrade, I would urge you to contact Mr. Viner directly. _________________ Living on the [w]edge... |
