Hi, thanks for letting me join your forum, it’s great to be able to find some experts here, who can aid with my restoration.

From reading through your website I am assuming the 13xxx is the number on the VIN, and mine is 121, (ex Aston demonstrator) which is currently a light metallic blue. My car will need a complete new floor plan, and a new paint job, so in theory I could go for another colour. I was wondering what your viewpoint was in keeping the colour as is now (original), or changing it completely to another colour, as it will have to be stripped back to bare metal?

Also I have no keys!! Anyone know if how to get a new set??

Thanks Ian

As to keys, doorlocks are British Leyland so all suppliers to these e.g. Rimmerbros etc have these.
Ignition lock seems to be borrowed from Jag XJ 6, so same answer.

Hello,
About the colour :
My car (13295) was British Racing Green (not metallic). I think only 2 were built in this colour : mine and King Hussein of Jordania car (13384). Mine is resprayed in Buckinghamshire Green Metallic, a AM colour in 1983 when my car was built.
I resprayed 13034 from Scarborough Blue Metallic to Imperial Blue Metallic (a shade available in 1980)
I mean if you respray your car, you need to respect the year of availability of the new paint in the AM shades of the era.

Now I have the car, I am sort of surprised I like the colour more and more. The official AM colour is Squadron Blue. However because one side was burnt with hot bitumen, it is all in the process of being stripped back to bare metal!! But I think it’ll be back to blue as soon as I can get the rust fixed!![/img]

My car was burnt from rear window back and the rest of the paint wash shot, every panel had a dent of some sort. I was tempted to change the colour as I like white or dark green and there were some very nice examples on the old photo site that were very tempting. In the end I went with origional Mercedes midnight blue and whilst it is a quite common colour I'm glad I went with it.
cheers
