I just called my insurance company and they told me that I am only covered in North America.

I will need to get an insurance in Europe.

Two questions for you guys:

One: Does any one know an insurance company that I can contact to have coverage for the time I am using the car in Europe?

Two: Can I have coverage with a canadian license plate on the car, let say for a period of 3 months?

Thanks for your input on this subject.

I also may have found a guy that is looking to share a container from Montreal to Antwerpen. thus reducing the cost to about 65% of transporting alone. I have been quoted $1600 plus 500 euros at arrival
for a 20 foot container alone compared to $2200 for a 40 foot and 700 euros of arrival fees. (devided by two in this case)

Anybody have ideas here?

Francis

Francis, have you thought about the roll, on roll off option?

It's way cheaper and damage wise you don't want to know what happens
in those containers, trust me I,ve seen some horrors over the years.
As long you dont fill the gastank probably nothing will happen.
Can find some adresses if you want.

Thanks Roger, I just contacted them.

I will be travelling this summer probably for 3 weeks. then I will probably leave the car in Switzerland, near Geneva at a friend's place so that it may still be in Europe far a few more months.

RO-RO is a possibility, but not from Montreal and I have seen horrors comming off Port Elizabeth (NJ) near New York when I picked my car up in the early 80's.
Driving to New York, the closest Roll on-roll off port is a bit complicated compaired to driving to the port here in Montreal, locking down the car my self with my lock and openning it my self at port of destination. The price difference is probably $700 to $800 minus costs of travel to New York ($100), plus plane back to Montreal ($300).

The major problem for me is that my power drainin my car is still not resolved. That means that if the battery drains in transport, they will push the car off the boat. They will not use care to do that and that worries me a lot.

May be just upgrading your insurance in Canada would be easier?

If you need a place to garage the car for a certain time, I still have some place available in my garage...

Thanks for the offer Zoran,

I may take you on your offer! Very Happy

No Canadian insurance company from here will provide me with a coverage for Europe. At least none that I know of.
