What is the mileage for your tires?
I have put new Avon tyres on my car when I have bought it in january 2005. 27000 Km laters they seem still to be o.k.. |

I put my new avon on in 2007 and have driven about 6000kms on them and they are still new.
The original tires had 17000 kms on them and looked also brand new. I had to replace them because of cracking...

Hi guys, remember my very old topic about tire failure on my Avon-s
late 70-s tyres on the cars (73 v8 and 80-s lags) with barely no wear and or dry cracks.
Over the years i had 6!!of them growing huge bulges on the threads
coused by internal carcass failure (which can not be seen untill it actually
happens.
So check regularly Probably most of this is coused by longtime stand still
and or under inflation or Mark might think differently

Harry,
You sound right on this, tyres that stay motionless tend to have internal carcass failiures. You don't see it and then boom!
On that same trend, my Jaguar X-Type is an 05 with 45 000kms in it. I have had 6 blowout with it so far. I probably had only one in my life before this car. The original Conti tyres blew out 3 times and I have had the issue with two winter Pirrelli tyres also. Last summer I replaced all the Contis for some Michelins, so far I drove maybe 1500 kms on them (if even that much) and had one front right tyre disentagrate...
Can this be related to the car's design? or just plain bad luck?

Tyres loose their properties after several years, I would say 5 or 6...
The best way is to let get them one year old before putting on the car, this helps the gums to make a little bit more kilometers/miles.
But we only drive our Lags 1000/2000 miles a year...
If you have the possiblity: get 4 spare steel wheels ( Jag XJ ), put old tyres on them and then fit them on the car, and store the wheels fitted with the AVON tyres at winter (or when undriven ) to avoid making a 'dish' on them. _________________ Welcome to Paradise ! (FRONT 242)
