I bought new ones from Puddleduck and converted the wiring as the new ones are for 1983 on, mine is 1981 as you know. The difference is the length of the leads on the touch pads (not long enough) and the connectors are different. So I plugged single connector wires in the connector at the pad end, removed (unsoldered) the socket from the small jump board, then soldered the new wires to the board x 2 one for each pad.

Whilst I had the covers off I cleaned all the connections I could get at
and replaced all the vacuum hoses that needed replacing and everything works perfectly for the first time since I owned the car. I should have done it years ago but didn't want to make things worse.
