Guys,

Does anyone have this information:

What type of wood was used by AML to create the wood panels on the dash and doors?

I am looking for the type of wood used as a base under the veneer they used as a finishing look.

I have posted your enquiry on the AMOC forum. If there is no joy I'll ask WS. Could your own wood man not identify it?

The question comes from him. He would prefer to recreate the dashboard plank because the one I have will always look fixed-up. It is not hard to recreate since it is fairly rectangular and he needed to reboar the vent holes anyways.

From the opinion of a wood salesman here in Montreal, it is pale mohagany or pale Lohan. neither he has in stock!

The ebenist/cabinetmaker working on my wood parts spoke about a kind of mahogany, probably from North America, because of the particular pink colour...

WS advise

Consensus is that is originally ash, but later moved to a marine ply and we are pretty sure some of the last cars used something very close to MDF!

ok thanks for your help, I also lean towards Mahogany.
Ash (frêne) is also a decent choice. Probably the most easely available here in Montreal.

My brother in law, the one that married my wife's sister, is a wood sales man for an industrial material company, tells me that Pale (white) mahogany is very hard to find and the reason they would have used it is that it is a marine wood. One that resist water damage.

that could be the reason they now use modern material to have veneer glued to it...

On 13295, the wood parts on gearbox and radio are made of MDF, where other parts are something near to mahogany. Is it correct so ? Or have these parts been replaced in the past - gearbox part is covered with moleskine now...
Not already checked on 13034 how it was done ( car stored some miles far from me ). Who can say how it was when new ?

Walnut & Tilia (Basswood, Lime, Linden) have also been suggested. When/if I find an old AML wood man (or woman) I'll ask them.
