Message: Anyone out there modified your Lagonda? I'm thinking of trashing the weird electronics and ugly pop-up headlights for a more modern interior with analog guages and modern headlamps while keeping the style as much as possible... also anyone change to 18" wheels? | |
Roger 3/28/2002 17:47:28 | Modifications | Message: Don't do it! A few cars have been converted to analogue, usually by the Factory. This can be an expensive process. I do not know of any in the US though. One is being converted at the moment in the UK, 13055 owned by Iain Batty (iainbatty@yahoo.co.uk) with the work being done by Jon Lawes (jonlawes@hotmail.com) of Wren Classics Ltd. They may be prepared to offer advice. |
Iain Batty 4/02/2002 15:38:29 | RE: Modifications | Message: I love my Lagonda but was infuriated by the instruments and switches. The displays were difficult to read and the performance erratic. After the battery was disconnected (for other work) we could not get the dashboard to come to life. Instead of spending lots of money trying to fix it, I decided to instruct Wren to fit analogue istruments and new switches. The car now has cream faced Smiths conventional instruments with modern digital read outs for the external temperature and the mileometer. The touch sensitive switches on the binnacles have been replaced by push button aluminium switches set into eteched black aluminium panels. Nothing has been done to alter the structure of the car. If a purist (or masochist!) wishes to return the car to its original specification, all the original parts have been preserved and can be refitted. The total cost for the new switches and instruments was GBP 2,500, which I consider reasonable for something which will make the car easier to live with. I would not want to undertake other conversions which would drastically alter the character of the car. It is currently undergoing a conversion to unleaded fuel, as part of an engine overhaul. The previous owner had a new leather interior but this was carried out to orginal specifications. Iain Batty |

I'm looking into modifying the front to emulate later models with the three headlamp look eliminating the pop-up's which work when they feel like it, even after spending $2000 last year on the system. |

I am restoring this vehicle and my customer wants to keep the original guages, he does not want to convert to analog. (believe me I tried hard to push this option) |
Christopher Biddle 5/17/2003 14:58:54 | RE: Modifications | Message: Hello Rick, I was curious about the possibility of putting 18" wheels on my Lagonda as well. Today I noticed a 1984 Lagonda which is for sale on ebay and it has 18" wheels fitted to it. Perhaps that seller can enlighten both of us. |
