Message: Currently on my 1988 Lagonda, while the hazard flashers work perfectly, the turn signals do not. When activating the left turn signal, the signal lights all come on, but do not flash. When activating the right turn signal, the signal lights on the right side of the car do not light up at all even though they properly flash when the hazards button is activated. Is there a relay for the turn signals which is separate from the hazards relay which is undocumented/hidden/etc...? Help! | |

Christopher Biddle 2/08/2003 07:15:19 | RE: Turn Signal Issue | Message: Thanks Joel. I will review all of the bulbs to see if I can find a culprit. What throws me about this particular situation is the fact that all of the bulbs and flashing mechanism work perfectly via the Hazard switch, but Not for the turn signal stalk which is why I was curious about any possible flasher relay unit which might be hidden somewhere (up under the dash or something). |
Christopher Milnes 2/21/2003 03:52:04 | RE: Turn Signal Issue | Message: This can be a relatively easy problem to fix, if you know where to look! Both the hazard and flasher relays are located behind the carpet in the left hand (drivers)footwell (to the outside of the car). I have a LHD car, so it may be reversed for RHD. Once you peel the carpet back, you will see the silver relays positioned horizontally one over the other. There are NOT, as I had been led to believe, two relays for the flashers (one r and one l). One relay works the hazards, one works all the indicators. If the lights are going on and staying on it means that the relay has failed. You can buy them for a few pence at Halfords (if you are in the UK). It is probably best to take them both out and replace with the same pin and voltage configuration as marked on the tops of the relay. When the hazard relay fails a similar thing happens although in my case, it started to falsh, which then accelerated to a state of being on all the time. If the lights are not coming on on the RHD of the car, check the bulbs and wiring connections. The very worst case scenario could be that you have a relay failure (hence no flashes) AND a connection failure on the indicator stalk. I have no idea how to get round that, but there are quite a few steps to get through before taking the stalk apart. I will be putting my car away for a month or so shortly, but if you want specific information on locations, voltages, locations etc, email me soon and I get get all that for you. |
Christopher Biddle 2/21/2003 07:07:45 | RE: Turn Signal Issue | Message: Mr. Milnes, thank you so much for this information. As I live on the East Coast of the States, I also have a LHD model. The car has been residing quietly in the garage for some time now as we continue to have snow, but as I am hoping to repair this problem in short order, I will check the relay this evening. If you can, however, also provide the information on locations, voltages, etc... as well, that would be most helpful as I suspect that there may also be a loose connection on the Right Side of the car somewhere. |
Christopher Biddle 3/09/2003 08:41:52 | RE: Turn Signal Issue | Message: I have a brief update on this issue. Although I could not locate the two separate relays, I eventually removed the lower dash panels in order to "follow the sound" of the working Hazard flasher unit. I then discovered the flasher unit behind the lower dash panel, next to the steering column. It appears possible that on my car, the relay for the Hazards as well as the turn signals may be encapsulated within this one blue plastic unit. If anyone has an opinion on that theory or another possible location to search for a separate turn signal flasher unit, please let me know. Many thanks! |
