Roger, thank you for responding to my post. I am located in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, USA which is about ten minutes from New York City. Unfortunately, the specific Lagonda I wanted was just sold, but I will still purchase another at some point. A few questions if you don't mind. First, since I only want a 1984 model, can you tell me of any specific problems to be cautious of with that vehicle? Are all parts (especially
dashboard) still available? Generally speaking, how was the overall reliability of the Lagonda? Being that it is quite expensive to repair, this is a major concern. Finally, would you happen to know how many 1984 cars were imported to the U.S., and what the color breakdown was? I always liked the 1984 due to its combination of the better wheels (my
opinion) original dash, and last of the single spoke steering wheel, not to mention the addition of the rear door window partitions, which I feel had a more balanced look than the previous single piece glass. I appreciate any info you can provide. Thank you kindly.

Lagonda purchase

The 1984 changes are relatively superficial in my opinion. The basics are much the same.Parts are available including the dash. The first generation dash appears to be more reliable than the later CRT version. There are not really any particular problems associated with this car than any other classic euro (super) car of the same period.I recommend you look at a few/as many cars as possible for comparison. In my opinion it is better to pay more for a good one than to buy cheap and suffer later putting it right.Try out all electrics to see if they work as this can be a common problem. There are quite a few for sale. Look at my sales page or Hemmings. You might like to contact some owners in NY/NJ area for their input.Refer to my directory(USA)page.Sorry I don't have the USA stats available.Good luck!

My 1984 Lagonda Experiences:

This is my Second Lagonda... I had a 85 with CRT dash which was cool but lots of problems that did not ever seem to be solved as well as bad shocks. The term shock is fitting because when you find out how much they cost to replace that is exactly what you'll be in! My 1984 I bought on E-Bay for $14K and I have another $4k to get it right (sort of) which is new headlight motor, new windshield motor anbd some minor stuff... it's still not perfect, but for under $20K who cares... cosmetically its great, brakes and tires in good shape and the engine and trans is in good health.

Electrical stuff... live with it and you'll be fine. I heard Evil Knevil took the engine out of his and put a big block chevy, but the engine is something of art and should last a long time if you take care of the car. Mine has 40,000 miles on it... my 85 had 15,000 mikes.

Overall... I'll never patr with the car unless someone gives me lots of cash, and even then I'd just go out and get another... by the way to buy one right get the last generation if you can afford it.
